Snow Removal

Salting and De-Icing

The part that actually keeps people upright — walks, entrances, and lots treated before they glaze.

Michigan winters rarely stay frozen. They swing — 34 degrees and dripping at two in the afternoon, 24 and glazed by seven at night. That cycle, not the snowfall, is what produces black ice on entrances and the majority of winter injury claims.

Priority order

  • Building entrances and door landings
  • Sidewalks and handicap access routes
  • Drive lanes and stop areas
  • Parking stalls and low spots that hold meltwater

Right product, right rate

More salt is not better salt. Over-application costs you money, damages concrete, and runs off into the beds and lawn where it kills turf along the edges. We apply at proper rates and switch to treated blends when the temperature drops out of rock salt's working range.

Documentation for commercial sites

Property managers can get service logs with date, time, and product applied for each visit. If a claim ever comes, that record is the difference between a defensible position and an expensive one.

This service is part of our snow removal service work across Metro Detroit. Bundle it with a regular route stop and you skip the trip charge.

Common Questions

Does rock salt work in extreme cold?
Standard rock salt loses effectiveness below about 15 degrees. When temperatures drop that far we switch to a treated or blended product that keeps working into the single digits.
Will salt damage my concrete?
Over-application on newer concrete can cause surface scaling. We apply at proper rates instead of dumping, and on sensitive surfaces we can use a lower-chloride alternative.
How often should a commercial lot be salted?
After every plow visit, and again during freeze-thaw stretches even when no new snow fell. Refreeze from daytime melt is where most winter slip-and-fall claims actually come from.
